ICE OUT for Good
January 10 -11 is a nationwide Weekend of Action.
Indivisible and a broad coalition of partners are banding together for the nationwide ICE OUT For Good Weekend of Action this Saturday and Sunday.
Rather than hold another protest, Indivisible Mobile is asking you to take some of the actions described below. We would also ask that you pledge to involve at least TWO other people who could participate as well.
First: Read An Explainer: ICE and Border Patrol.
This document is meant to outline main points, fill in some important detail, and provide sources of information. Note: Although some main points are supported by a single source, ALL of these points and details were vetted across multiple sources.
Second: Choose a tool for your activism.
5Calls This website or app makes it simple to call your representatives, and provides issues and scripts. Please choose one or both of the issues below to be the subject of your calls this weekend. (You don’t have to read from the scripts, of course, they are just a suggestion.)
Resistbot Check out the Resistbot website to see the current petitions, and then text the code assigned to a petition to 50409. Follow the prompts to send a letter to your representatives.
To sign: Congress Must Act After ICE Kills a U.S. Citizen in Minneapolis, text SIGN PDMOGJ to 50409.
To sign: ICE is Trump’s Gestapo. What are you doing to stop lawless cruelty and abuse?, text SIGN PXCBUV to 50409.
Third: If you are able, please consider a donation to any of the organizations below.
Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice
EXTRA CREDIT: Call or email Democratic members of the Homeland Security Committee to urge support for Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy’s proposed reforms to DHS as a condition for passing a spending bill.
The proposed reforms include:
requiring a warrant for arrests
banning masks during enforcement operations
limiting the use of firearms by ICE when conducting civil matters
requiring agents to wear identification
requiring Border Patrol to remain at the border
I know that phone calls and emails are a bit less “sexy” (haha) than protesting. But this is meaningful and necessary work. If our representatives (especially the Republican ones) don’t hear from us, they might think we are just fine with what is happening in our nation. TELL THEM WHAT WE WANT! They work for us.
See you at the next protest!
