Join us from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Mobile, 6345 Old Shell Rd, Mobile, AL 36608.
On Wednesday, July 2, we’ll be writing voters in Republican Congressman Tom Kean’s district in New Jersey, urging them to reach out to Rep. Kean on immigration. Kean is relatively thoughtful on the issue; his website says, “America is a land of immigrants. Many of us have family who generations ago came here seeking the opportunity for a better life.” He goes on to emphasize “law and order,” but it still seems possible to reach him on this issue, and perhaps he could be a voice of reason and humanity in Congress, especially as the Big Bad Bill returns to the House.
Reminder: If it passes, the bill provides $45 BILLION for detention through Sept. 2029, a 365% annual increase, and $14.4 BILLION for transportation and removal operations, a 500% annual increase. This bill MUST be stopped.
We can also write postcards to Rep. Barry Moore (R - AL, District 1) to urge him to vote against the bill (or at least to let him know how mad we will be when he votes for it….).
